Andrew Demarco First To The 200s On MT 275s | ProTorque Converters Records:

The evolution of horsepower and performance in the heads-up doorslammer drag racing world in recent times has been nothing short of staggering, and each year, heck, each week it seems another benchmark is shattered that was once considered a pipe dream at best.

Well, now we’ve got another one to add to that list.

On Saturday, Massachusetts native Andrew DeMarco reeled off what we believe to be and what our good friends at Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels have confirmed as the first 200 mph pass on a pair of 275 Drag Radial tires in his turbocharged ’86 Ford Mustang GT with what’s being described as an “easy” 7.82 at 201 mph on a set of the new M/T Radial Pro tires at the New England Dragway.

DeMarco, running out of the DMC Racing shop along with his brother, David, who competes in the NMCA Super Street 10.5W class, debuted the sinister Fox body in the NMRA back in 2010 in the Super Street Outlaw category and quickly became one of the frontrunners in the “10-Inch Tire Freak Show” with his Proline-powered mount. DeMarco, however, recently stepped away from the NMRA scene and has focused his attention on the bustling X275 eliminator that’s all the rage up in the Northeast near his Malden, Mass. home.

With personal bests in Super Street Outlaw trim in the very low seven-second range, there’s no question that DeMarco eased his way to “just” a 7.82-second lap, thus leaving to question just how much more the car has left in it. If the Radials are indeed quicker and faster than the True 10.5’s (and many believe that they are), we could soon see the first six-second pass on 275’s in the very near future, as well.
