Team ProTorque Dominates Hot Rod Drag Week in 2019

Medford, NY – September 19, 2019 – PROTORQUE PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS’ Team ProTorque racers absolutely dominated the 2019 Hot Rod Drag Week presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive with Tom Bailey taking home the overall win while also making the event’s first-ever 5-second pass, and many other racers also finding success.

Bailey, who is based out of Lake Orion, Michigan, and a proud member of Team ProTorque, is no stranger to the grueling nature of the week-long event, as he had won it three times in the past already. This year, there was no denying that Bailey had the quickest and fastest street car in the country as he visited five drag strips in five days and put nearly 800 miles on his infamous twin turbo ’69 Chevy Camaro.

Bailey’s week started out strong as he ran a 6.21 at 228 mph pass with co-driver/engine builder, Steve Morris, by his side. Making good use of the new, water-jacketed SMX billet engine, the guys went on to dominate Drag Week with the first-ever 5-second elapsed time in the event’s 15-year history. “Beast Mode” Bailey’s 5.998 at 250.46 mph quarter-mile pass not only set a new world record, but helped him to capture the Unlimited Class and overall event win (for the fourth time) out of 355 entries with a final 6.299-second average.

Hot on Bailey’s heels in the Unlimited Class and scoring the runner-up honors was fellow Team ProTorque racer, Bryant Goldstone, whose ’73 AMC Javelin put together a collection of impressive runs to finish out the week with a 7.380-second average.

Finishing fourth overall in the Unlimited Class, and for Hot Rod Drag Week itself, was none other than Stefan Gustafsson who also runs Team ProTorque products. Making the trip over to the United States from his home in Sweden, Gustafsson expertly piloted his ’84 Chevy Corvette to end his adventure with an 8.769-second average.

In the Pro Street Power Adder category, Team ProTorque was once again in the lead thanks to Glenn Hunter and his twin turbo ’56 Chevy Bel Air. The gorgeous classic “7 Second Rat” lived up to its name and produced an average of 7.486-seconds that put the Tri-Five machine’s New York-based driver into the winner’s circle.

Meanwhile, Craig Groebner was all business in the Ultimate Iron class, and the Team ProTorque driver put his ’71 Chevy Nova to work. Proving to be the baddest of the bunch was a given for Groebner, who tripped the beams at each of the tour’s stops and went home with a winning 8.609-second average for his efforts.

Incredibly, each of these five Team ProTorque drivers were using ProTorque EV-1 converters – most of which were four to five years old! With an estimated 4,000-6,000 miles on each unit, most of which were accumulated while pulling trailers, and hundreds of passes down the drag strip, ProTorque’s converters proved to be reliable and race-ready winners.

Congratulations to all the Team ProTorque racers who competed in the 2019 Hot Rod Drag Week marathon event, and to those who took home huge wins, set monstrous records, and ran amazing new personal bests! Bailey’s outstanding achievement and “first to the 5s” run will be in good company on the lengthy list of other ProTorque “first to the 5” accomplishments.

Team ProTorque racers have now accumulated SIX overall wins over the past seven years of Hot Rod Drag Week. Whether it’s a race car or a street car – or even BOTH, ProTorque has the converters and parts to make cars fast!
