Dear Joe,
Coming into Bradenton Motorsports Park, we had one goal in mind, redemption. This year we are going to fight for our 9th championship in the NMRA’s Street Outlaw class.
We could not have asked for better weather all weekend in Florida, as it was a nice 75 degrees at the peak of the day and a cool 55 degrees in the evening. Temperatures like this meant only one thing, record-breaking times. Our first pass down the track was very good, as we expected. The car worked the way we needed it to, and then it was time to turn it up and see what the track could do.
After a few test hits, it was time for our Friday night qualifier. Going 7.042 at 200 mph put us at the top of the list as the Number 1 qualifier and that’s where we intended to stay. The next two qualifying hits were slightly off, however, as we kept having small gremlins get us at the wrong time.
Sunday brought on eliminations, and with a lot of hard work and thrashing, we were able to work out all the kinks just in time for first round. We lined up against our competition and dusted off the quickest pass in Street Outlaw history, 7.03 at 197.5 mph! In our second round, we bested Tony Alm to land ourselves a bye round into the semi-finals. The final round of competition, we lined up to last years’ champ, Phil Hines, for what we think was one of the most exciting races so far this year. With an .043 to Hines’ .055, the cars were neck and neck down the track, but we edged out the win with a 7.104 to Hines’ 7.150. What a way to start off the 2014 season!
We want to thank you for your continued support and sponsorship and hope to bring home our 9th championship title this year in the NMRA Street Outlaw class.
Sincerely,
John, Melissa & The Hellion Crew
